From Conversion to Compliance: ABA, Conversion Therapy, and the Harm of Normalization
This talk traces the historical connections between applied behavior analysis (ABA) and LGBTQ+ conversion therapy and examines the ideas about normalcy, behavior, and human difference that helped shape both. Drawing on a disability justice framework, it considers what this history can teach us about affirming care, autonomy, professional power, and policies that reject coercive normalization.
