Join Us in Celebrating Disability Awareness Month

Dear Rutgers–New Brunswick Community,

Throughout October, we come together to celebrate Disability Awareness Month by recognizing the many contributions of students, faculty, and staff with disabilities who enrich the intellectual, cultural, and social fabric of our campus.

I invite you to explore the Disability Awareness Month website, which features a wide range of in-person and virtual events, along with resources and opportunities to get involved. We hope you will join us for the opening celebration, SparkNight at the Zimmerli Art Museum, on Thursday, October 1, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and take part in many other events throughout the month.

Disabilities, both apparent and non-apparent, are an essential part of human diversity. This month is an opportunity not only to raise awareness and deepen understanding, but also to affirm our shared commitment to ensuring that every member of our community has the opportunity to participate fully and thrive.

Rutgers–New Brunswick is proud to be a leader in disability research, services, and advocacy. Our Office of Disability Services provides critical support for students, faculty, and staff, and the Program for Disability Research is a leader in research on the economic, social, and political inclusion of people with disabilities. The Disability Studies minor also continues to expand with an 80% growth in enrollment since it became an offering in 2023.
