Upholding Our Values and Supporting Our Community

March 28, 2025

Dear Colleagues:

On Wednesday, I hosted our first small-group listening session with Rutgers–New Brunswick faculty and staff. It was an opportunity to discuss how we can continue to advance the university’s mission in today’s evolving landscape. I am deeply grateful to everyone who participated and appreciate the thoughtful and honest conversation.

Today, I want to reinforce President Holloway’s message from yesterday to our university community and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to Rutgers’ core values and our profound impact on society. As an inclusive institution, we are dedicated to access and opportunity for all. President Holloway emphasized, “it is the university’s expectation that its programs supporting our students, faculty, and staff are open to all and compliant with state and federal law.” Your role in this is crucial, and your efforts are deeply appreciated.

Thank you for your continued engagement and collaboration as we support Rutgers’ mission. If you are interested in joining our next listening session, please indicate your interest here. Additionally, the Office of the Vice Provost for Research offers weekly office hours for faculty and staff to discuss research-related concerns. To learn more, please contact nb-research@rutgers.edu.

We remain steadfast in upholding Rutgers’ core principles: academic freedom, public service, access and affordability, and a campus culture of mutual respect—free from discrimination and harassment. Our commitment to inclusion and wellbeing for all remains unwavering, ensuring a secure and supportive environment for our community.

Please visit the universitywide Navigating New Federal Government Actions and Requirements page for the latest updates and FAQs.

Thank you for all that you do. Your dedicated work in furtherance of our mission transforms lives and strengthens communities. Your efforts are not unnoticed and are deeply appreciated.

Sincerely,

Francine Conway, Ph.D.
Chancellor and Distinguished Professor
