Announcement of Interim Dean of Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP)

June 9, 2021

Dear Members of the Rutgers–New Brunswick Community,

As Dr. Denise Hien completes her term as Interim Dean of the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) and transitions into her new role as Vice Provost of Research for Rutgers University–New Brunswick, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ryan J. Kettler as Interim Dean of GSAPP beginning July 1, 2021.

Dr. Kettler has held leadership positions as the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs for the GSAPP and Assistant Director of Clinical Training for the Department of School Psychology. Before joining GSAPP, Dr. Kettler held the Coordinator of Data Services position in the Learning Sciences Institute of Vanderbilt University's Peabody College. He earned his doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Dr. Kettler’s funded research on data-based decision-making in education yielded more than 80 publications. Active areas within this program include universal screening, inclusive assessment, and educator effectiveness. He is the author of Research Methodologies of School Psychology: Critical Skills, the lead editor of Universal Screening in Educational Settings: Evidence-Based Decision Making for Schools, and an associate editor for School Psychology International.

In addition to his effective administrative leadership in his current role and a demonstrated history of leading an outstanding research program, Dr. Kettler is an exceptional teacher and mentor.

We appreciate that Dr. Kettler has agreed to lead GSAPP until a national search for a new dean is completed and a permanent dean is on board. We are confident that GSAPP will continue to thrive under his leadership during this period of transition. We are grateful to Dr. Hein for leading GSAPP during the past eight months and know she will excel in her new role.

Sincerely,

Chancellor, Rutgers University-New Brunswick

Francine Conway, Ph.D.
